Four years ago, I wrote the following on this website:
“I am running for City Council District 5 because I believe our city is falling short of its potential. Our city leaders need to do more to control crime, support education and develop neighborhoods. More importantly, we need new leaders who not only know right from wrong, but demonstrate ethical behavior in all aspects of their personal and professional lives.
I have been knocking on doors and learning more about your ideas for our city. I hear your frustration about the current state of affairs and commit that, when elected, I will represent this district with dignity and common sense.
I want Memphis to be a place my children are proud to call home and a city in which they choose to live when they are adults.
I hope you will join with me in making Memphis the best that it can be.” Today, I can say that we have made progress.
Major crimes are down 36%. We have increased the city’s efforts to combat blight. We have successfully recruited businesses, which will bring thousands of jobs to Memphis. The Council passed the strongest ethics rules ever for the group. I am optimistic about our future and want to continue my work on the City Council. Please join my campaign.
